Pretreatment
Control of industrial wastewater discharges to the treatment facility is
accomplished through the industrial monitoring and pretreatment program. Pretreatment
program staff are engaged daily in measuring and testing the wastewater discharged at
twenty six (26) industrial locations in the Gloversville-Johnstown area.
In addition, inspectors visit industrial pretreatment facilities to
ensure that they are properly operated and maintained. Development of this program, which
received the 1989 Municipal Achievement Award, has resulted in significant reduction in
the strength and toxicity of industrial wastes.
