The Gloversville-Johnstown Joint Wastewater Treatment Facility is designed to treat up to 13.8 mgd of domestic sanitary sewage from the cities of Gloversville and Johnstown as well as industrial wastewater from leather tanning and finishing, metal finishing, textile and other major industries. Peak treatment capacity is 30 mgd.

The plant provides secondary treatment for organic removal and advanced wastewater treatment for ammonia removal via the activated sludge process. The treated effluent is discharged to the Cayadutta Creek. Wastewater sludges generated at the plant are thickened, anaerobically digested, dewatered and hauled to the Fulton County Landfill for disposal. The treatment plant is also designed to receive and treat septage and leachate from the Fulton County Landfill .
